About Hyundai HTWO Innovation Centre

The Hyundai HTWO Innovation Centre (HTWO-IC) is a Centre of Excellence in green hydrogen, established through a landmark partnership between Hyundai Motor India Limited, IIT Madras, and the Government of Tamil Nadu. Anchored at the IIT Madras Discovery Campus in Thaiyur, Chennai, the Centre spans 82,800 sq. ft. of purpose-built deep-tech infrastructure across three functionally distinct zones – each designed to serve a precise role in the hydrogen technology development lifecycle. HTWO-IC is India’s first integrated hydrogen valley of this scale: a single campus where a technology can travel from a digital hypothesis at TRL 3 to a deployment-ready validated prototype at TRL 6/7, without ever leaving the building.

Our Vision

To be a pioneering centre of excellence - catalyzing the green hydrogen transition through cutting-edge research, indigenous technology, and deep collaboration.

Our Mission

  • Research – Advance green hydrogen science across the full value chain, from materials and electrochemistry to systems integration, bridging TRL 0 to 9
  • Build – Establish world-class fabrication, testing, and validation infrastructure that transforms laboratory discoveries into deployable technology
  • Localize – Drive indigenous manufacturing of critical hydrogen components through a structured MSME ecosystem, reducing India’s import dependency
  • Train – Develop 1,00,000 skilled hydrogen professionals — from shop floor to executive – through structured curriculum, hands-on training, and nationally recognized certification
  • Incubate – Attract, nurture, and scale deep-tech startups and proposals that fill critical gaps in India’s hydrogen supply chain, from seed prototype to commercial product
